Bluetooth in Mageia 9

Postby rodgoslin » Aug 3rd, '24, 02:22

I'm setting up Mageia 9 on a Lenovo ThinkCentre M25s gen7, which I am assured has built-in Bluetooth availability. Has anyone any idea how this facility can be used within Mageia 9?. I ask this, since I have laid idle a rather nice logitech MX Master 25, mouse, which I would rather like to use. Not to mention a few other audio devices, the use of which would too, be very nice

I assume the desktop you use is Plasma, because of your other thread about Konqueror.
In the system tray there is a ^ symbol, click it and it shows hidden icons - among them Bluetooth.
Start there.

Some mice need special drivers for full functionality or settings. Quick web search found no Master 25 but Master 2S ?

Thanks Morgano. A search in the 'hidden icons' revealed no entry for Bluetooth. This led me to thinking that perhaps it ws not hidden, but was in the icon listings. Combing that I came to Tools>System Tools, and there was Bluetooth Manager. Opening this brought up 'the graphic 'Bluetooth Devices' After a (very) long pause a popup announced:-
Conection to Bluez failed.
Bluez daemon is not running. Blueman Manager cannot continue. This probably means that there were no Bluetooth adaptors detected, or Bluetooth daemon was not started.

Bluez is installed.

Services and daemons in MCC indicates that bluetooth is started on boot, but that it is stopped Clicking on start fails to start it. Above there is a further entry for 'blueman-mechanism' not started on boot and also stopped, and does not respond to the 'start' button.

As you said, the mouse is MX Master 2S. the micro font had me going!

Are you sure that is also enabled in BIOS/UEFI? I don't see neither wifi nor bluetooth device, which should be present.

Well in the CODE entry, you will note that it begins at the prompt, and the command, and ends at the prompt. So that is all that the command returned

I;ve carried out a reboot and queried the BIOS settings. Under 'Devices', the Bluetooth option is 'Enabled'

The command returned
Code: Select all
  Message: No bluetooth data found.

Looking at Lenovo's data sheet for the ThinkCentre M75s second gen2 I not that they supply it with a choice of bluetooth...or none
Code: Select all

Perhaps I have the 'none' Lol

Looking at a different set of specs for my ThinkCentre, an asterisk on the Bluetooth entry indicated "for selected models", since it also included WiFi connection, and an earlier post could not find WiFi connectivity, it does rather seem that I;ve drawn short on this. Since a number of adaptors are offered, perhaps it's a plug-in feature, and just a matter of finding the adaptor in the market Hey-Ho.

The main board probably have a socket for a module of wifi+BT.
You could open your machine and see if it is empty.
First find a manual to see where it should sit.

Hi, Morgano.I did a bit more digging, and I think I've come up with the answer. I bought the ThinkCentre to replace an earler one that had failed. Impressed by the build quality, I bought another. later, as a backup machine. I've not got round to re-building the second machine, but opening it up, it has the appropriate card fitted in the second m2 socket, so presumably this one does not have the WiFi/Bluetooth card, and so, no Bluetooth. I;ve ordered the appropriate card from Amazon, so should be here soon. It was only £22, so there seems little point in not fitting it as standard.
