Following the directions from the page
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Synchronize_ ... ermissions . Added the line
- Code: Select all
myusername ALL=(ALL) ALL
to the sudoers file.
When I try to execute the file as regular user with entry in sudo file I get the following error message.
- Code: Select all
2024_05_03_at_18:44:34 sync_skype_urpmi: commenced ./sync_skype_urpmi version 5
2024_05_03_at_18:44:34 sync_skype_urpmi: Mageia 9 OK
You need to be non-root user to run sync_skype_urpmi. Bye
So what am I doing wrong.
Thanks.

Did you actually read the big, fat, red warning at the top of the wiki page?
Additionally your user should be part of the wheel group for sudo...

Does that mean that every thing beneath the big, fat red warning has no meaning. In that case why is it there. Basically I need skype to access the american toll free 800 number network. Skype is perfect for that. Is anyone aware of a replacement for skype that will let me gain access to those numbers. I would prefer not to install another version of linux inorder to gain access to the snap packages. There seems to be some issues with security with snap. I have tried fedora but I do not like it. Thank you

Because the editor of the english page decided not to remove it because he is so proud of his no longer working script. I adapted the german page and removed the no longer working instructions...

OK. We want keep all the responses nice for the hard working people. I return to the original problem. Is there any way to install the skype package. Failing this I will install virtualbox then install another linux version with snap support and then install skype. Thanks.

Solved. I installed via flatpak. Never considered that at the beginning. Works well.

Thank you for the feedback.
I added hints to both alternate methods in the Synopsis of that page.
