Alien cannot find control file

Postby flink » Nov 21st, '23, 09:41

I want to convert the Debian file from chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra.

So I download the file chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra_85.0.4183.83-0ubuntu3_amd64.deb.

Code: Select all
[franz@franz-820 Opera]$  sudo alien --to-rpm --scripts --keep-version  chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra_85.0.4183.83-0ubuntu3_amd64.deb
Control file couldn't be read! at /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/Alien/Package/Deb.pm line 234.

Alien was working in Debian at least in 2021, so maybe a a long way may be to install Debian in a virtual machine (i.e VirtualBox) and work in it...

Maybe you better seach net for alternative ways to get the codecs and install them.

Do you specifically want the Debian file, if so why? Maybe it is available as a rpm fie for other distro, that may work to shoehorn in? (or at least pull files from)

I stumbled on https://chromium.woolyss.com/
There are binaries and archives with lots of codecs, i.e the fork Thorium

I have already searched around in the internet. I cannot find the Chromium Browser chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra as rpm file. See the issue .

A bit up in the thread you link to, I read "ark can extract libffmpeg from it (it is in data)".
Have you tried?

Please answer on the other thread. It does not belong to "alien" and its problem.
