Mageia 8 on VMware

Hi everyone!
I am actually playing around with VMware Workstation 16 and I have tried out overs 40 OS, old and new. I also tried Mageia 8, the x86 version, with Plasma as desktop. Installation is all OK, but after changing the screen resolution, it's over. The system boots normally, the login page shows up with the new resolution, but after login ... just a black screen, nothing to do than power off the VM. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi there, some more context information would be appreciated. Where exactly did you change the resolution, in drakx11 ?

Hi again.
Here the screenshots concerning the display resolution changes that I made. 1440x900 is the resolution that I use on a dozen of other Linux distributions. The black screen problem also occurs with other resolution settings.
To add that I did not install VMware Tools, because in VMware Player the menu item "Reinstall VMware Tools" was displayed (not "Install VMware Tools") and dimmed. I guess that this means that the Mageia setup program did install Open-VM-Tools. May this be the problem?

What I forgot to mention: The next screenshot (mageia4) is a totally black screen, resolution=1440x900 (the new one I applied).

FWIW, on your last screenshot - never use the "Test" function as that might leave an ~/.Xauthority file behind owned by root:root which will lead to the broken login.

You're right! Changing the screen resolution and leaving the settings config without testing, then rebooting ... all fine. Thanks a lot for your quick and professional help!
