hi,
I have an older laptop with 32 bit mageia 7 on the same home network accessing the broadband router. I want to use it as a file server and download my files. I have been unable to ping the system. The other laptop has mageia 8 64 bit. I have a feeling that the forewall is the problem. Eventually I will just use a ftp gui to access the 32 bit from the 64 bit. THanks.

I don't know much of networking but if you believe the firewall is the problem, open the Mageia Control Center and just disable it. Then try again, and if it works with firewalls disabled then we could start working with that.

Check the firewall settings, ICMP echo is not enabled by default: https://doc.mageia.org/mcc/8/en/content ... akfirewall
