I downloaded a zipped file for mageia 8 plasma

next ,In terminal, I downloaded usbimager with the command
$ wget https://gitlab.com/bztsrc/usbimager/raw ... ux-x11.zip
then
$ unzip usbimager_1.0.5-x86_64-limux-x11.zip

and lines of text appeared, and it looked successful but as I had no instructions and as there was no icon to click on I was stumped
the instructions I followed merely said at this point "enjoy" so it seemed as something was suposed to happen, but nothing happened.

I inserted a usb stick but its presence made no difference.
It seems that I have overlooked some extremely basic thing, but I do not know what to do except to ask for help.

It would help if you mention what you actually want to achieve, and what "zipped file" you downloaded in particular.

Do you want to create a bootable Mageia installation or live media to boot from USB stick ?

I currently run Mageia 6 , susie, pop and windows on individual hard drives in my computer. I gave up on Zorin (it destroyed Windows) and Buster It stutters). Mageia 6 switches to the hard drive I want to use so I will keep it as it is on its hard drive

I want to run Mageia because of the clear and simple way it works and upgrade to Mageia 8 as there are issues with my copy of Mageia 6
I downloaded Mageia 8 zipped on one hard drive running "Pop" operating system.
It was recomended to put Mageia on a usb stick and load that onto a hard drive.
I have no other need for the usb stick as my intent was just to run Mageia 8 on its own hard drive, one that I had formerly used for "Buster" operating system.
I usually purchase a disk with a live image so downloading to install an operating system from the internet is totally new to me
thanks for your attention

Then maybe have a look at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Installation ... lash_drive
Also, you didn't mention what image you downloaded in particular? Because we don't offer any zipped downloads AFAIR.

I checked and you are right, it is not zipped. It is an image file and as it is about 35.5k, I assumed it was strongly compressed.
The instructions you pointed out to me are complete enough so I should be able to get through it. I had high hopes for usbimager
as it appears so easy to use. I, unfortunately, never saw how to get it to run.
Thanks for your advice.

The option of buying an inexpensive live disk also exists and is an excellent option when the linux root password is forgotten.

Ok, but this thread was about creating your own USB boot media, no ?

Also changing root password is also possible with our live disks as well.
