No, this does never show up.
I have started with the Mageia 8 GNOME Live DVD.
There I used the command line shell to set the hostname.

hostnamectl set-hostname NEW_HOSTNAME
Then I started the installation on the harddrive.
After the installation I did the restart for the installation process.
It again ends up in a black screen+ with a cursor blinking.
Then I switched the screen to another instance login. And the hostname is now successfully changed during the installation. Then I could not change the login screen back to the former instance. After the restart the Mageia startup freezes after a while. But it is still possible to shut it down.
