X11 forwarding request failed on channel 0 [SOLVED]

Postby paulcbrennan2001 » Nov 18th, '21, 20:50

I am just a user but can use Konsole to a degree. I am trying to backup files to my Synology NAS using rsync. On the NAS I followed the instructions and set up rsync and ssh. When I try to backup I can login to my NAS but then get the above error. Does anyone have an idea to solving this?

Many thanks.

Sorry, I don't understand. They look like instructions for Ubuntu. Did the first command but the Konsole just sat there and did nothing.

Sure, you have to adapt some of the instructions to Mageia. The first instruction that you mentioned was to make sure that xauth is installed (that should already be the case at your system). You can check that either in Software Center or use following command to install:
Code: Select all
urpmi xauth

"some instructions on the internet" regarding ssh and/or X11 forwarding, which by itself has no real authentication is something that you should be really wary about.

Noted. Instructions I found showed me how to change X11Forwarding from No to Yes. It worked so I can now backup to my NAS. Thanks for letting me know but it was a Linux site with instructions for various distributions.

If you only want to do a backup via ssh/rsync, why would you want to enable x11 forwarding at all?

Because it would not backup creating the error.

Well, then disable the X forwarding on the Synology ?

Absolutely no idea how to do that. I'm just happy that I can backup. Thanks anyway.
