screen sharing doesn"t work on plasma

Postby pmithrandir » Nov 8th, '21, 18:57

Hello,

I'm using mageia to work on a daily basis.
I'm getting an issue while sharing the full screen, on pretty much all video conference tools.

If the sharing of one application usually works well, the full screen is more fishy.
I get one of the following :
- the screen show nothing, just the background, as if no windows were present
- The windows are displayed, but the switch from one to the next one at fast speed, literally blinking

Did you find a way to stabilize the screen sharing function ?

I'm using :
gmeet
teams
discord

thanks

There are many informations missing as i can not confirm such behaviour with Plasma, Google Meet and an up to date Chrome 95.0.4638.69.

- which browser and version are you using? Or do you use the standalone versions?
- do you have the same behavior on both sites (switch the screen sharing function between the computers)
- do you use a multimonitor setup? that would explain an empty screen (you are sharing the wrong screen)
- do you use the corporate/commercial versions from teams or Google meet?
- does your computer fullfill the hardware requirements for the named tools:
Google meet https://support.google.com/meet/answer/7317473?hl=en&ref_topic=7306097#meet_hardware
MS Teams https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/hardware-requirements-for-the-teams-app#hardware-requirements-for-teams-on-linux
- whats the make and model of your graphic card? Which driver version?
- hardware acceleration enabled in your browser?
- does your system support WebGL? https://support.google.com/meet/answer/9302964?hl=en&ref_topic=7294099#zippy=%2Cwhat-you-need
- Did you try to adjust the video resolution, e.g in Google meet:
https://support.google.com/meet/answer/9302964?hl=en&ref_topic=7294099#zippy=%2Coptionen-f%C3%BCr-die-aufl%C3%B6sung%2Cresolution-setting-options

What did you try from the recommendations from the supplier forums/FAQ/Support pages......?

I'll try to answer everything :

I use plasma on a mageia 8 up to date.

- which browser and version are you using? Or do you use the standalone versions?
Firefox or Chrome, but that happens as well on teams and discord, which I installed as standalone application.

- do you have the same behavior on both sites (switch the screen sharing function between the computers)
It's either a blinking or an empty screen

- do you use a multimonitor setup? that would explain an empty screen (you are sharing the wrong screen)
Yes I do, but I have windows openned on both, and none are visible on the external screen.

- do you use the corporate/commercial versions from teams or Google meet?
I do yes

- does your computer fullfill the hardware requirements for the named tools:
Google meet https://support.google.com/meet/answer/7317473?hl=en&ref_topic=7306097#meet_hardware
By far yes

MS Teams https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/hardware-requirements-for-the-teams-app#hardware-requirements-for-teams-on-linux
Yes also

- whats the make and model of your graphic card? Which driver version?
Intel Corporation
TigerLake-LP GT2 [Iris Xe Graphics]

- hardware acceleration enabled in your browser?
Yes

- does your system support WebGL? https://support.google.com/meet/answer/9302964?hl=en&ref_topic=7294099#zippy=%2Cwhat-you-need
Yes (I can enable visual effect with no issue).

- Did you try to adjust the video resolution, e.g in Google meet:
https://support.google.com/meet/answer/9302964?hl=en&ref_topic=7294099#zippy=%2Coptionen-f%C3%BCr-die-aufl%C3%B6sung%2Cresolution-setting-options
I didn't, but the camera is not involved here, just the screen sharing.

What did you try from the recommendations from the supplier forums/FAQ/Support pages......?
So far I didn't find anything related. So for the moment I didn't try anything yet.

Hello,

In the meantime, I found that switching to xrender engine could resolve the issue... I'm trying that today.
I was on opengl 3
