Mageia 8, VirtualBox 6.1.28 update

Postby butchkn » Oct 27th, '21, 00:23

I was running VirtualBox 6.1.26 successfully, did a Mageia update which included VirtualBox update to 6.1.28 (multiple files). Now the Vboxhost will not start. removed VirtualBox, renistalled Virtualbox still vboixhost will not start. So, I am interested on which log file I can look at to see what is failing. Or if someone knows the solution please post some details

By Vboxhost you mean vboxhost.service ? That is basically only relevant for loading the 3 kernel modules which are required
Please post the output as root of of
Code: Select all
systemctl status vboxhost.service -al

You can also have a look at /usr/lib/systemd/system/vboxhost.service to see what it does.
This would mean for some reason the kernel modules cannot be loaded. Please also post the output of
Code: Select all
rpm -qa | grep -iE "kernel|virtualbox" | sort
dkms status -m virtualbox

1) you could really clear out a lot of old kernels you dont use...

2) The log line
Oct 26 15:48:29 linux01.kpalc.home modprobe[1001]: modprobe: FATAL: Module vboxdrv not found in directory /lib/modules/5.10.33-desktop-1.mga8
seem to indicate you boot kernel 5.10.33-desktop-1.mga8, but there is no corresponding virtualbox module.

3) The dkms status indicate the same, you have modules for four other kernels.
Try booting i.e kernel 5.14.10-desktop-1 instead.
