SoftMaker FreeOffice2018 on Mageia 8

Postby HenryBuddy » Jun 4th, '21, 22:30

I've been running SoftMaker FreeOffice2018 on Mageia 7, both 64 and 32 bit, with no problems. But it won't finish the start-up process on Mageia 8 32-bit. I haven't tried it on 64-bit. If anyone is running FreeOffice on Mageia 8, please post how to do it. (SoftMaker does not officially support their FreeOffice package on Mageia.)

Please provide the output if you run it from a terminal. Are there any relevant informations?

Did you use the rpm or tgz file for installation?

I have installed FreeOffice from the downloaded rpm file and also from the tgz file, both as root and also as not-root. The result is the same for all. I am currently trying to get the rpm version to work.

Here is the console command: /usr/bin/textmaker18free -debug
The crash produces no messages on the console.

When textmaker18free starts, it displays the dialog asking for the authorization code. When I enter the code, the dialog disappears and then immediately reappears and asks for the code again. After I enter the code a second time, the dialog disappears and then the program crashes.

Here is the contents of the tmcrash.txt file:

I hope this information is useful.

Do a web search for FreeOffice Appimage, and try that.

If you can find a flatpak that is usually even better

UPDATE: This problem does not occur when running on the 64-bit version of Mageia 8. It only occurs on the 32-bit version of Mageia 8.

Perhaps this problem will be fixed by a later update to the 32-bit version of Mageia 8.

Softmaker will probably drop the 32 bit versions in the future. The commercial Softmaker Office 2021 is already only available for 64bit. And when the new commercial version gets published, the 2021 version gets the FreeOffice 2021 version (there are some hints in their support forum about that)....
