At first glance there is no difference between these two sources (checked some media infos, checksums, package versions,...)... Whoever did this separation...

No, there aren't.

Code: Select all
# lftp -e ls ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib
cd ok, cwd=/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib
drwxr-xr-x   7 ftp      ftp            99 Apr 11  2016 6
drwxr-xr-x   7 ftp      ftp            99 Dec  1  2018 7
drwxr-xr-x   7 ftp      ftp            99 Dec  1  2018 8
drwxr-xr-x   7 ftp      ftp            99 Dec  1  2018 cauldron
lftp distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr:/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib>

When checking the content of the mirror via rsync you will see that those are only links:

Code: Select all
$ rsync -r --exclude "/**/*" --dry-run rsync://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib/

I do not want to add more job and i appreciate commitment.

It was just an idea to give a simple and quick way to install the final release.

Yes, you are right and i think about this sometimes.

This is a good news. It does not take up extra space and repo of 5 is exactly the same as 5.1.

nexus wrote:Yes, i know and i have tested every distro after but unfortunately they lack the functionality of version 5.1. For the most part, its not even the fault of the magea developers, but the plasma.

If you really need a supported distro that has KDE4, perhaps you can try Rosa Fresh 11 KDE4, it has updated kernel 5.10. It is the closest sibling to Mageia.
Btw, you are not the last man on the planet using Mageia 5. I still have M5 on two of my old laptops and they run flawlesly :D .
Although, I would suggest upgrading to M8.

Along the lines of running old DE but maintained, there is Trinity installable on Mageia 8. Started as a fork of KDE 3.5

I really want it, but first I need to complete the missing functionality.
