[SOLVED] New App don't appear in KDE Application Menu

Postby ainals » Apr 20th, '21, 20:23

Hi,
After a failed upgrade from Mageia 7 (remember to turn off screen locking when upgrading), I installed a fresh version 8 on the root partition. I recreated my user at install and it read my existing home dir. When I logged in, all my open windows from my last Mageia 7 KDE session came up like it there was no change.
However, any new application I install does not appear on the KDE application menu, even KDE apps. I think there is some permission issue here somewhere but I checked .kde and I owned and had write permission to all the sub dirs. Since installation is done by root, it shouldn't have problems updating the common KDE application menu. Is there something from version 7 in my home dir that is blocking the updates or not reading the common KDE application menu correctly?
Any help is much appreciated. For now I'm down to launching apps from the prompt.
Thanks

Any improvement if you run
Code: Select all
kbuildsycoca5 --noincremental

Also, what application did you install in particular ?

OK so I am having the same problem
new install with new 1Tb HDD and 710 graphics

so a bit of background
M8 was previously installed after a few issues, with old graphics and an old HDD
had no problems installing new apps and finding in menu

so replaced HDD and graphics
installed and everything OK
went to add chromium and Pysol
but didnt show up in main menu
neither was a games folder created into the main menu for pysol
nor could I launch using the "search" in the menu

they did install as I went looking and found them in /usr/bin
and created some links to the desktop

any help would be appreciated

Thanks. The command solved it. I just installed simple stuff KNetWalk and KBreakout. I've been a Gnome/Mate user for a long time and only recently using KDE.

Please create a separate thread for your issue. If you have this issue with a fresh install this would mean everyone with a fresh mga8 install would have this issue, which is not the case.
