[SOLVED]Hidden Launch CSM in the bios How to Install Mageia

Postby canadaist » Dec 9th, '20, 01:13

[]How do I install Mageia on a new Vivobook M513IA Ryzen 7 4700 which allows the disabling of secure boot, but has no launch CSM (Compatability mode)?
Choosing to disable Secure Boot sets the computer to user mode...

A booting live disk does not offer to install, a live boot on usb stick stops after choosing time zone.
7.1 download yesterday, newest IsoDumper.

Or is this a return and not a gift?

In general if you really cannot disable secureboot, then you cannot install any OS that does not support secureboot - which are only a few linux distros,
or you would have to install a custom secureboot shim bootloader yourself, which is used to load the regular bootloader.

Correction:
It does not appear to switch away from user mode, and the Main tab in the bios says it is in Administrator mode.

Might there be something else to do before turning secure boot to disabled? I don't know what "not installed" password means on the previous screen...

Not installed either means that no password is set or no key is installed.

Have you actually tried to boot after disabling Secure Boot ? What was the resul ?

What do you mean here. Is there no "Install Mageia Live" entry in the boot menu? What do you see if not?
a live boot on usb stick stops after choosing time zone.

If you press Ctrl-Alt-F2 at that point, do you get a tty login prompt? If so, log in as root and enter 'journalctl' to view the system log and look for error messages.
7.1 download yesterday

Which may be too old to support your hardware. You could try the 8-beta1 ISOs.

It showed all the items on the live disk welcom, offerimg Boot and Install (with video driver choice) but the arrows would not change to any choice but boot. Other choice faded.

It did not offer CSM but is installing now despite not offering CSM

wish me luck, I got install yo start, there may be problems, but windows is gone at least. Marking it solved.

Closing this thread with Mageia 8 beta 1 installed quick, sharp clean and fast. After upgrading, almost 1600 files, and that reboot including logging in is not much more than thirty seconds.
Havent found anything that doesn't work yet. Looking forward to it.
