NetworkManager in Gnome from traditional installer

Morning all! New to Mageia so trying to make sense of something.

I just installed 7.1 from the traditional installer (not the live ISO) and decided to go with Gnome. From my understanding Gnome is supposed to default to using NetworkManager. But in my case it didn't. I started the service up and then the wifi menu showed in Gnome but wouldn't connect (I'm sure I can figure it out but that's as far as I got last night).

Could that just be because I tried (and ultimately failed, but that's beside the point) to bring up the network in the installer and that messed with the config? Or did I find a bug? Or did I just misunderstand something?

On a semi related note, since Mageia defaults to it's in-house network applet on every other DE, what's the benefits of using that vs NetworkManager like I'm used to on other distros? (If I need to move this part of the question to a different sub forum let me know).

AFAICT and from what I remember networkmanager is enabled by default under GNOME live images, for the regular images there's nothing different and networkmanagers needs to be enabled manually.
Might be different nowadays as I haven't installed mga7 since quite some time.

For the related question, there are no real benefits for our in-house network applet, apart from the fact that it is currently a bit more integrated in our other drakx tools and MCC.
I can only recommend switching to networkmanager, it's working better in most cases especially with wireless/mobile and regarding VPN support.
