Is it possible to install mageia without uefi?

I want to install mageia 6.1 on an old laptop without uefi support. I'm using rufus to burn the iso to usb. However, the laptop doesn't see the usb, presumably because it's using uefi.

Hi there,
Mageia images are hybrid images, meaning they both work on legacy and UEFI systems. Although it matters how you write the images.
In rufus you had to select "DD mode" in the past, so that rufus would write the image as-is to your usb drive. Did you try that ?

For the old Laptop, it may also be worth checking the BIOS version, and see if you can update it.
You can probably load the BIOS onto a USB that is based on VFAT32. Many BIOS will recognize a USB (formatted as VFAT32).
The really old computers would need a USB of 2GB or less.
In BIOS mode, also check to see it loads USB with full initialization, or legacy mode.
If you run into further problems, you'll need to describe what laptop you are trying.
