Solved SPlashy Error

Postby johnch121 » Aug 8th, '20, 14:48

It is not a mageia issue but a mandriva issue, my system will not boot, every time I try and boot the system it stops and says splashy error connection refused. Does anyone know how I could fix this issue.

See the error messages above that, it can find either resume device nor could it mount /dev devicetree and also /sys & /proc are missing.

If you're still running Mandriva, do yourself a favor, backup what is still accessible, and then reinstall. You could possibly keep your /home folder so you'll keep most of your settings and documents.

Looks like a hard drive failure of some sort. Maybe just corruption, but if the drive is old enough to still have Mandriva, it may be on its way to that Great Computer In The Sky...

I do not think it is a hard drive failure as it only happens on laptops with certain graphics card, it's odd but I know nothing really about linux

> benmc : nice try but I find the link suspect. It says
This tool will scan and diagnose, then repairs, your PC with patent pending technology that fix your windows operating system registry structure
.

If the PC/laptop is more than 7 years old it could be the BIOS battery needs replacement. You could try letting the laptop be connected to power all the time and when you turn on then go into the BIOS of the laptop and see if everything is OK and if not whether it can be fixed. A tell sign is if the date and time is not current time. If you correct any errors and the do an SAVE-AND-EXIT you may be ready to go as long as on power.

Problem solved, I was sure it was a graphic card issue so I installed mandriva 2010 but just done an upgrade that sorted the issue out, it's now booting fine
