Ktorrent opens before anything else after a restart & looks for a file that doesn't exist
I uninstalled & reinstalled, same result
How do I stop this behavior?

A file that doesn't exist anymore at that location, because they moved to a different system. See https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=403054
Either open a bugreport, and ask that GeoIP support is disabled in the meantime, or use a different torrent client.

If you don't want ktorrent to start, then either start with a new session or quit ktorrent before you shutdown.

Thanks for the reply
Ktorrent works fine
I'm not using the geolite files
If I have used ktorrent, ksys guard is the only way to stop, closing normally leaves it running in the background, even though there are no torrents
Is there a configuration file or cache that can be deleted, so ktorrent doesn't look for the file that I'm not using, that doesn't exist?

ksys guard is the only way to stop...no, file menu/quit will kill the program as will Ctrl-Q. You are right that clicking the X in the top right corner leaves it running. If you right click on the system tray you can configure it so it will show that it is still running. With ktorrent running, configure system tray/entries. Next to where it says Ktorrent change the visibility to "Shown". This way when you forget to use the file menu/quit to stop the program you will see it in the system tray and you can right click the icon and chose Quit. Apparently the people who wrote the program were expecting to run it all the time.

As far as I'm aware, no. ktorrent would need to be recompiled without support for GeoIP or with support for using system GeoIP library.

Thanks
There are various programs that don't shutdown when closing, I don't bother digging to deep, nearly every program wants you to learn their slightly unique verbiage
I just use ksys & kill
ctrl+q I may be able to remember :D
I usually leave the torrent running, if I'm sharing something like the Mageia iso for months
I remember trying to download some maps which didn't work & picking up the artifact [nagbox] ever more
I'm glad someone did the work to make ktorrent work
Thanks for spending your time helping
