Creating USB boot 'stick'

Postby BrentRogers » Apr 19th, '20, 18:18

A while back, I purchased a version of Mageia [5 I think it was].
I did this because -- at the time -- a Live image simply copied to the USB stick would not preserve any config changes.

For some reason now, the USB stick won't boot any more.
I also want to install Mageia 7 on the stick,

Is there anything special I need to do to get my USB stick up and running?
I saw the instructions on copying the LIVE iso image to a USB.
However, once done and once I start using --will any config settings 'stick'?

If you add a persistence partition after dumping the Live ISO to the USB stick, any changes you make in the Live system will persist. The easiest way to do that is to use the Mageia IsoDumper tool (which provides that option in v1.05 or later). If you can't run IsoDumper, you can do it manually by using fdisk to add a third partition in the free space on the USB stick, then formatting that partition (using a Linux-friendly format, e.g. ext4) and labelling it 'mgalive-persist' (e.g. 'mkfs.ext4 -L mgalive-persist /dev/sdx3', replacing sdx with the actual device name).
