change root password

I read the instructions and saw that I was supposed to use f6 in the boot section to begin the password change procedure.
The difficulty is that nothing happens when I press f6. I have tried doing it at different points in boot with the same result.
f1, f2 and f12 work but may not be relevant. If it makes a difference I am using grub to dual boot.

Easy search through the search-box in the upper-right corner for "change root password" leads to:

@isadora: FWIW, this is actually the link I provided to OP previously.

As the key bindings changed slightly since that thread was created, and as we transitioned from grub legacy to grub2, it's not F6 anymore, but that should be obvious when you scroll further down in the thread, where I even added some screenshots showing which key to press ?
