SOLVED - SDDM Virtual Keyboard

PostPosted: Oct 25th, '19, 16:48

I have just switched from Fedora KDE Spin to Mageia 7.1 Plasma and am enjoying the effort that has been put into Mageia, I am using a touchscreen convertible tablet that has a physical key board and can also be keyboard free, this is great when logged in as I can use Onboard as a virtual keyboard.

If I lock the screen or restart there is no virtual keyboard button meaning if I do have the hardware KB with me I cannot log back in!

Can anyone advise me how to setup the virtual keyboard for the lock screen and login screen?

Thanks

Hi there, what sddm theme do you use?
Do you have qtvirtualkeyboard5 package installed? And what is configured in /etc/sddm.conf for InputMethod ?
You would need to change the latter to qtvirtualkeyboard and restart sddm to be able to use it.

FWIW, this has been disabled by default, see https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/952 for the reasons.

H thank you for your reply, I found that suggestion on searching the forum and it had no effect, so I conclude that the qtvirtualkeyboard5 package is not installed. Weirdly I have KDE Neon user edition on another machine and the virtual keyboard works fine; with SDDM theme I have tried all three that are in the system settings and have not added any others it is set to Breeze at present.

Answered my own question, I located qtvirtualkeyboard5 rpm package for Mageia and installed it. I now have full functionality for a virtual keyboard on my login scree.

Please don't do that, searching for distro packages via some search engine. You could have just installed it via normal software management: http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/7/en/content/ ... ement.html

No need to remove the link. It's just for the sake of keeping your own system working fine and not breaking it with some arbitrary packages ;)

That's cool as with the virtual keyboard on the login screen and a couple of scripts I have the best system I have had for about a year. I have managed to get auto rotation working nicely with KDE so I can use the device keyboard free as a tablet, it has excellent battery life on Mageia plus good WiFi support.

Love it 👍
