[Solved} No bootloader found by rescue disk

Postby JJF » Sep 9th, '19, 21:51

To my embarrassment I found myself run into more troubles.
I resized Mageia partition (sda5) trying to make room for another distro (Ubuntu, which I aborted after waiting for too long )
The situation got worse. Mageia 7 starts but do not reach the login screen remaining with one "ball" stalled on the flash screen .
I run the "rescue" from Mageia ISO DVD, and could see all my files on the disk.
But I got the message " bootloader not found" (error 2 if I remember correctly) trying to rewrite the bootloader.
Need the forum's help

installation in MBR or UEFI?

depending on how much user data is in your "sda5" you may just be able to do a "dirty" re-install.
effectively redoing your install but do not format (uncheck) any partitions.
install should complete in a few minutes as no packages are needed, and then at the end configuration window, install your bootloader.

Thanks
Did you mean "install" or "Upgrade"?

Why not just reinstall the bootloader while booted into the rescue disk? You know what partition you want to boot from, right?

I can't tell you how to do it; it depends on how your system is configured. Also, I don't have to do it myself often enough that I remember how. But an internet search will turn up the information you need.
