Kernel Panic upon shutdown, unless module cx8800 isn't loade

This problem has persisted since ages, perhaps even Mageia 5, but for sure with Mageia 6 and now 7.

If I reboot from the login screen (kdm?), all works fine, the system shuts down, then comes back up.

If I shut down, the system doesn't shut down cleanly, it throws a kernel panic with blinking keyboard lights.

I have managed to narrow things down to the driver "cx8800" of my tv-card. If I unload that module, the system will shut down cleanly.
Unfortunately, I can't unload it after having used it - and if I blacklist it, I can't use my ir remote control anymore, which is a strong conflict of interest. Actually, no, it's not, there's no contest. I need the remote. Shutting down cleanly? I either reboot, or just suspend.

But: it indicates something is wrong with the kernel / module.
Now, where to go from here? Mageia bugreport? Kernel bugreport?

You mentioned you cannot unload the cx8800 module once you used it - why is that? Did you only try to rmmod cx8800? (which will probably fail as the module is still in used by other dependent modules)
Or what command did you try in particular, and what output did you get?

Now, where to go from here? Mageia bugreport? Kernel bugreport?

My hat's off to you! Good find.

Indeed I didn't unload the whole shebang, I'll give that a try for sure.

Unfortunately, the guy reporting the same bug was just easily satisfied, since he could manage to implement a good workaround.
I can do that on my side as well, but I think bugs should be fixed...
And not shutting down will not make linux look very good, if you ask me...

Well, feel free to report it as a bug, then hope that some developer is willing to invest time into that who can reproduce that AND has that hardware to debug it, and to also fix it.
I'd say realistic chances for that all coming together is nearly zero.
