A little help about mgaonline wanted

I use Mageia 6 since it appeared. Now I read that Version 7 is ready for working. And I read at the download-page about upgrade from version 6 to 7:
The Mageia Update notification applet, Mageia Online, will notify you that a new Mageia release is available
and
you can upgrade manually either using the GUI (mgaonline) or the CLI
. I search for mgaonline on my computer and get nothing. I try to install it and get nothing. I search the wiki and get a page
Devel Admin Tools
with a line
mgaonline
. So my question is: what is mgaonline, where can I get it and how do I use it? And the answer should imho be a new page within the wiki.

If you read the wiki page, it shows the actual command: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_7_Rel ... _.28GUI.29
That page is also linked directly from the download page. FWIW mgaonline is an alternative name for mgaapplet.

Although, note the hint at the wiki page - upgrade via that way has not been enabled yet. You can either upgrade via urpmi/dnf or via upgrade installation from DVD.

Sorry, you misunderstod me, like the moderator did too. I do not need help any more. Imho it could be a good idea to write a small article for the wiki, what mgaonline is, how it works and perhaps to not write anything into the frontpage, that is not anabled. For dumb users like me. I'm working with Linux only for 20 years ...

I got magaia upgraded to version 7, but I wasted 4 days of my live for useless information.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

insofar as I am aware, mgaonline is part of mgaapplet. (I am happy in my ignorance)
What I understand happens is after any update query, (and or all updates applied) mgaapplet then queries the server to see if an upgrade is available.
if there is, the upgrade notification is displayed in the system tray instead of the update icon.

If you have been seeing a notification in your system tray regarding updates, then it has been working fine.
As the good Doktor has advised, the wiki notes that the upgrade notification has not yet been enabled.

this also occurred when upgrading from Mga5 to 6, due to a ongoing issues with upgrading KDE-Plasma.
once those issues were resolved, the upgrade applet was re-enabled, and it magically appeared in users system tray.

When QA(testing) have determined to the best of their abilities that there will be minimal issues with upgrading from Mag6 to 7, there will likely be a public announcement, and shortly after, the upgrade icon notification will appear in users system trays (not yours, as you have already upgraded by a different method)

Well, the sentence you quoted in your original post is not on the download page anymore.
Apart from that, the download page directly links to wiki articles that explain the upgrade. I don't see why we would need another wiki article, what for ?

From the wiki-page:
Upgrading via the Internet

The Mageia Update notification applet, Mageia Online, will notify you that a new Mageia release is available, and ask if you wish to upgrade. If you agree, the upgrade will be carried out from within your Mageia installation without any further steps being necessary.

If you have disabled the applet or it is not automatically running for some reason, you can upgrade manually either using the GUI (mgaonline) or the CLI (urpmi/dnf system-upgrade).

What ist mgaonline? Where is it? It's not in my System. How do I get it? What is so difficult, to tell newbees? If they search the wiki, they will find https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Devel_Admin_Tools and this page has an entry "mgaonline". That place could be the right place for a small explanation ...

How did you install updates until now, if you don't have that applet ?

Maybe not, but it would help everyone to understand how we all arrived here.

what does:
rpm -q mgaonline
..show?

Do you have the box checked on this page:

Mageia Control Centre -> Software Management -> Configure Updates Frequency

This page is where mgaonline is configured.

I you would read the thread, you would know: I do not need help! I have a wish for others: a Wiki-page for mgaonline.

Spielmops

BTW: mgaonline is not working, so why should I check a box for that?

The only thing i can tell is, there are still issues concerning mgaonline for Mageia-upgrade to version 7, and it is waiting for these to being solved.
