[SOLVED] Can't replace composite in kdenlive

Postby asimov-solensan » Jan 24th, '19, 21:15

Hello all,

Maybe someone can help me with this software, or at least confirm I run into a bug.

I'm a total noob, and maybe it's the second time in 7 years i need to edit a video. The main problem I have got is that I need to censor sensitive data such as IP addresses and usernames. So far I solved this adding a new track (with a black image) and then doing a composite effect with the main video. I can resize and replace the black image to cover the exact part I want to censor. And I can add as many tracks as I need if I need to cover multiple elements in a clip.

Ok, so far this worked wonderfully and it's documented in a ton of pages and tutorials on youtube.

So yesterday it worked without issue, but today I cannot replace any composite object by hand (mouse), I mean that it should have red lines and dots all around that allows to freely move and resize the object, but such lines are not there anymore. Not even for the objects I added before.

Check this image (ignore red square) the composite object selected is the one covering the URL and it doesn't have the mentioned red lines and dots to move/resize.

I can still specify the coordinates by hand, but this will take much more time.

As a summary my question is if somehow I disabled the feature that allows to freely move those objects or simply I found a bug in kdenlive and that's all.

So far I have found that in Xubuntu this is working correctly kdenlive version 17.08.2.

Mageia 6 has 17.12.2. What I can't is why this worked for a whole day and then stopped working.

So far I was unable to find what happened, I finished my project in a virtual machine that luckily I had in my home hipervisor.

Sadly i don't use kdenlive that often to try to replicate this problem and try to open a bug.

If someone finds this same problem my advice is to just another version of this program.

Create another user on the same system and see if the same issue is there.
(testing same software but fresh settings of both desktop and program)
Mandriva since 2006, Mageia 2011 at home & work. Thinkpad T40, T43, T400, T510, Dell M4400, M6300, Acer Aspire 7. Workstation using LVM, LUKS, VirtualBox, BOINC

This solved the problem indeed. Although my work was done this maybe useful in similar situations.

Indeed wit a new user this feature worked as expected. Then with my regular user, after deleting ./.config/kdenliverc solved the problem.

Thanks a lot.
