[Solved] Can't select tellico in Software Managment module

Postby vygotsky » Jun 20th, '18, 18:14

When, in the Mageia Control Center Software Management module, I try to select 64 bit or 32 bit tellico, I get this result: Sorry, the following package cannot be selected. How can I install (preferably) the 64 bit version? Why will the Software Management module not let me install either? Does it mean I've installed some app that's incompatible with it? If so, how do I find out what it is?

Hi vygotsky.

Have you enabled your on-line repos?
It may be your mirror was/is updating itself and was unable to supply tellico .rpm

open a root terminal and invoke mcc
Code: Select all
$ su -
password:
# mcc

attempt again to install tellico.

or just use urpmi:
Code: Select all
$ su -
password:
# urpmi tellico

in the terminal, it should advise why this cannot be installed.
please post the response from terminal.

Thanks benmc,

Yes, online repos are enabled. Just won't install through mcc. Did urpmi tellico as root to find out why, as you suggested, and got this result:

Code: Select all
The following packages can't be installed because they depend on packages
that are older than the installed ones:
breeze-5.8.7-5.mga6
plasma-workspace-5.8.7-6.mga6
plasma-integration-5.8.7-1.mga6
tellico-3.0.2-1.mga6
Continue installation anyway? (Y/n)

Not sure what would happen if I selected Y, so then I tried:

Code: Select all
[root@linux ~]# urpmi breeze-5.8.7-5.mga6
The following package cannot be installed because it depends on packages
that are older than the installed ones:
breeze-5.8.7-5.mga6
Continue installation anyway? (Y/n)

And then:

Code: Select all
[root@linux ~]# urpmi plasma-workspace-5.8.7-6.mga6
The following packages can't be installed because they depend on packages
that are older than the installed ones:
breeze-5.8.7-5.mga6
plasma-workspace-5.8.7-6.mga6
plasma-integration-5.8.7-1.mga6
Continue installation anyway? (Y/n)

One alternative that occurs is to reinstall 6.0 from CD and include tellico, then do updates. I wonder, though, will the system refrain from offering updates that break the installed version of tellico? Another alternative is I googled the tellico project page, and see tellico 3.1.2.tar.xz is available. Don't know if that will work with the dependencies I have installed, or if I will, after all, have to somehow roll back those packages (and god knows what else) in order to get tellico, either the one in the Mageia repository or the tarball, to install? But not tonight. I've stayed up past my bedtime. Will advise tomorrow. Thanks for your input.

current version should be : 5.12.2-1.mga6

seems like your mirror has not updated to the latest plasma5 packages.
see here=> https://blog.mageia.org/en/2018/05/05/t ... -6-update/.
please check your mirror status here => https://mirrors.mageia.org/status.

you may have to choose a mirror manually that has updated recently.
this can be done in the MCC software management, configure media sources for install and update. (look under "File" top left).
disable or delete your current repos.

as the update is typically over 500 packages, ensure a good internet connection (wired) and good power (if laptop, plugged in to power and charging ;) )

you can run the update from terminal after adding the new mirror.
use the following commands:
Code: Select all
$ su -
$ password
# urpmi --auto-update
if there are any problems, again post the terminal output.

best regards

Success! When I installed 6.0 I followed, against my better judgement, the (documentation's?) suggestion that I choose a mirror geographically closest to me rather than mirrors I've used and trusted in the past. After I read your comments I went into the Configure Media Sources sub-module and deleted that mirror. Then I googled a list of Mageia mirrors, picked a likely one (ftp.fi.muni.cz), went back into the CMS sub-module and added it. When I selected Tellico this time it pulled in its dependencies and installed everything without further ado. When I was doing Mandriva I always added my favorite mirror (Proxad) with urpmi.addmedia. Not as convenient as the GUI but more fun. Maybe when I install 7.0 I'll brush up and go back to that. Thanks for the heads up. Didn't realize my mirror was the problem.

No problem.
Good to know all working.

Please edit your first post in this topic to prefix with [Solved].
