Backlight does not switch off in screensaver

I'm running Mageia 6 on an HP Elitebook 820 G1 laptop (i5-4310U, Intel HD Graphics 4400), with the Xfce desktop. The XScreenSaver setting is 'Blank screen only' . When the screensaver kicks in, it turns the screen black, but it doesn't switch off the backlight. The backlight can be software controlled. When using the keyboard hotkeys for brightness (handled by the desktop, somehow) the lowest step is backlight off.

Is there a way to let the screensaver switch off the backlight as well?

screensaver blanking the screen and screen completely turning off are two totally different things. You want to have a look at https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-power- ... t_settings
