[SOLVED] Latest Google earth fails to install

Postby Ali » Mar 15th, '18, 22:24

Hi
New mageia user is here. So far Mageia have behaved very well on dual gpu laptop (Nvidia optimus) and I really enjoyed dnf in Mageia. However I have some questions that I will ask one by one in separate threads. Please let me now if I ask too much. This is my main issue concerning installation of google earth.
I'm trying to install latest google earth package (7.3.1.4507) on Mageia. When I double click on this package and select install a message appears telling that some dependencies can not be installed due to lack of mesa-libGLU on my system and the installation fails. I have checked Mageia repos, it seems that unlike fedora and openSUSE this package has different name in Mageia (libmesaglu1) and I have the latest 64 bit variant on my system. How to overcome this issue? should I install this packages and all of it dependencies from i586 repo too? or perhaps the package name should be changed?

Sorry for my english

Hi Ali and welcome to Mageia.

Is there a specific reason to use google-earth 64 bit.
try the 32 bit version to see if that is working.

also, you should have the following repos enabled:
Code: Select all
core release
core release updates
non-free release
non-free release updates
tainted release
tainted release update
32 bit core release
32 bit core release updates
32 bit non-free release
32 bit non-free release updates
32 bit tainted release
32 bit tainted release update.

if you installed via dvd or usb, you should also dis-able
Code: Select all
cd-rom release
cd-rom non-free

then update your system

there is a link to set the repos up from the Mageia Welcome app.
just check and or un-check the required boxes and save/exit

Thanks.
I couldn't find 32-bit version of 7.3.1.4507. Google earth site automatically detect my system architecture and 64-bit version is the only offer. Also, I couldn't find any third-party mirror for google-earth. Older versions are in https://support.google.com/earth/answer/168344?hl=en for both 32 and 64 bit systems. But they lacks auto update feature. I tested 7.3.0.3208 32-bit and it automatically suggest to install libmesaglu1 from i586 repo, suggesting that, it will install without problem. So I manually install this package and all of it's dependencies and reran 7.3.1.4507 again to see how thing goes. Again, installer complained about lacking mesa-libGLU.
Note that I already have enabled all of repos you mentioned for my system. Do you now a mirror for 32-bit version of 7.3.1.4507?

see also:

https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22747.

BTW, as you are an affected user, you are welcome to test any updates.
keep an eye on the bug report, and if you choose to test the update, just enable "updates testing" of all your repos, then choose and update the correct package.
