Semantik Mind Mapping (solved)

I am wondering if anyone uses this software successfully.
I have attempted install on 2 different computers and both install and the program opens but it crashes when you try to start a new map. It feels like it is missing vital parts and only half done.

Are you talking about https://waf.io/semantik.html ?
It has not been updated or rebuilt against KF5, see https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17528
Currently, if you want to use it, you may need to build it yourself from https://github.com/ita1024/semantik
or you can try the update candidate from updates_testing, see https://madb.mageia.org/package/show/re ... e/semantik

Thank you so much for the reply.
I tried using the updates_testing and it pulled in some dependencies but on attempting to start program I get:

semantik: relocation error: semantik: symbol _ZN6QColor13setNamedColorE13QLatin1String, version Qt_5 not defined in file libQt5Gui.so.5 with link time reference

Would I be better to build from source? I did try to start out with that previously but ran into dependency issues - mainly because I didn't know what development packages were needed.

Well for the updates_testing candidate you may need to wait for the updated Qt packages, you may also need to install them from updates_testing as they're not in core/updates currently, see https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22660

You should be able to install all necessary build dependencies via something like
Code: Select all
urpmi --buildrequires http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/mageia/distrib/6/SRPMS/core/updates_testing/semantik-1.0.1-1.mga6.src.rpm

Thanks again.
That worked for the building from source - I did also have to add some extra c++ items.

So all is working, though it doesn't seem to be that robust (v 1.03).

Well, depending on what you actually need you could try freemind or vym or quite a few others.
For more alternatives, check e.g. https://alternativeto.net/software/free ... form=linux
