Discord 0.0.2 requires non-existing libc++.so.1

Postby hazard157 » Sep 1st, '17, 08:10

Discord (https://discordapp.com/) is multi-platform voice and text chat application. I used version 0.0.1 on Mageia 5 & 6.

After update to the version 0.0.2 application starts but the window remains blank (empty). Discord is based on the Google's Electron platform, so it's easy (pressing Ctrl+Shift+i) to find the problem - program can not find library "libc++.so.1". However, there is no packages with "libc++" library in Mageia repositories.

What can be done to run Discord application? How I can get "libc++.so.1" library?

Hi,

Discord is part of COPR, where you can find a Discord version for Mageia 6 and Cauldron. I don't know which is the version no.
If there is any problem, you may contact the COPR packager directly.
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/tcg/discord/

I tested it and could invoke the program. Unfortunately I have uninstalled the program here,

The discord installer from copr repo from the will download the regular 0.0.2 from https://dl.discordapp.net/apps/linux/0. ... 0.2.tar.gz or the canary version from https://dl-canary.discordapp.net/apps/l ... .24.tar.gz

For the record, same issue here.

Although after installing libcxx libcxxabi from the copr repo mentioned by Bequimao discord appears to be working again just fine.
Out of curiosity, how did you see that libc++.so.1 was missing/required?

Hi,

When you see the blank window, you can push the keys ctrl+shift+i to open a development kit tool. Inside, on the first line, their is an error message : "Uncaught Error: libc++.so.1:"

Hi,

I know that this is an old-ish thread but I have this problem and I can not for the life of me figure out how to get those packages. If one of you would be kind and tell me how to do it, I would be so grateful.

and also, I am a bit of a beginner, so please, be gentle :)

Hi,
I dont recommend this approach since it uses these libs from other distribution, but for me it worked:
1) you go to https://pkgs.org/ and search for (if your system is 64bit) lib64c++ and then you get lib64c++1-7.0.1-1-rosa2016.1.x86_64.rpm
and lib64c++abi1-7.0.1-1-rosa2016.1.x86_64.rpm from ROSA 2016.
2) Extract the rpms with archiver and inside (folder usr/lib64) you will find the libs++ and libc++-abi.so
3) Put these .so libraries in the main discord folder (in case you downloaded the nondebian discord) and it should work.

Cheers

Why make it so complicated? You can simply install discord as flatpak: https://flathub.org/apps/details/com.discordapp.Discord

Tried installing it as a flatpak but the same problem occurs. which is weird because flatpaks are supposed to be sandboxed, right?

How do you start the discord flatpak? Because I'm using com.discordapp.Discord/x86_64/stable from the above link and I don't have that issue.
