[SOLVED] Kate lost my sessions after upgrade to Mageia 6

Postby emason » Jul 24th, '17, 15:07

Trouble free upgrade from Mageia 5 to 6. But Kate is not picking up my previous configuration, which includes several sessions that I don't want to lose.
I have this:
Code: Select all
$ ls -l /home/emason/.config/katerc
which is new, and this
Code: Select all
$ ls -l /home/emason/.kde4/share/config/katerc
which is from Mageia 5.

I also have this:
Code: Select all
$ ls ~/.kde4/share/apps/kate/sessions/
SEP.katesession  General.katesession   pytracker.katesession  Seabirds.katesession

which are the sessions that are no longer being imported into Kate. I suspect I just need one or two softlinks to fix this, but I've not succeeded so far, nor found anything useful on the web.

Grateful for any help.

I think that you need to move or copy ~/.kde4/share/apps/kate/ to ~/.local/share/kate/

Yes, sadly not all KDE configurations are migrated. Exactly what Jim mentioned.
I also wondered where my kate sesstion went, and needed to copy it over.

only copy the session folder

Postby flink » Feb 6th, '18, 17:30

It is not necessary to copy all the files, but only the files inside of the session folders.

Code: Select all
cp /home/myuser/.kde4/share/apps/kate/sessions/* /home/myuser/.local/share/kate/sessions/

myuser ... your Linux user

These files are not needed:
[myuser@computer kate]$ pwd
/home/myuser/.kde4/share/apps/kate
[myuser@computer kate]$ ls
