Hmm, as you mention it runs when you strace it, could this be similar to viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11730 and viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11739?
Also see the linked bugreport for more details.

Thanks Doktor
But alas none of those suggestions work, and vlc and the /usr/lib64/vlc/vlc-cache-gen -f /usr/lib64/vlc/plugins still seg fault
ive even tried

vlc is now basically unusable, and I think a system reinstall is going to be the only way to possibly fix this, which you dont often say about a unix derived OS.

in the meantime im using Bino for videos and qmmp for audio.

I think ill wait until mga6 comes out as lxqt still works the same under mga6 , as 5.

seems vlc is doing this on multiple linux OS's

there are lots of similar reports if you google it

So it's actually the same reason as in cauldron.

upgraded to mga6rc, where this issue has been resolved.

And i am getting to grips with using plasma5, instead of lxqt initially to see if its now minimalist enough for me.
would be nice if someone wrote a classic app launcher and classic task bar, maybe now its getting more attention someone will.
