Mga 6rc and Konqueror [Closed]

I like Konqueror more than Dolphin for my File Manager of choice. Come Mga 6 the command "kfmclient openProfile filemanagement" no longer brings Konq up as file manager, but with an error message. The Konqueror Handbook offers Konq as an 'alter ego' file manager, but omits (as far as I can see) to tell you how to do this automatically. Any ideas, anyone? I also, occasionally, have a need to use Konq as root (Don't ask!). This I can do with the command "/usr/lib64/kde4/libexec/kdesu kfmclient openProfile filemanagement", and it works fine, in Mga 5. I've not tried it in Mga 6 since the command to open Konq does not work anyway

Seems to also be mentioned in DE forums: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=138895 and https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=225&t=139952
And sadly it seems this is not possible anymore, you have to choose that in the menu once konqueror is open, and this only embeds dolphin, so you may have to use dolphin. Or something else, like krusader

rather a shame, that. Unless I can find a way round it. However, there is another concern, within this, in respect of my requirement of running the File Manager under root. The initial command '/usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kdesu' (for a 32 bit machine), does not work, either. From the error message I deduced that kdesu no longer exists. I verified this, and it does not. It has, in fact been replaced by kdesu_stub. The term 'stub' means little to me , but a reference in Wikipaedia seems to suggest that a stub is a sort of placeholder for further information, or work. Is this then still work in progress?

Might be located now under /usr/lib64/libexec/kf5/kdesu but I currently don't have a Mageia 6 system to verify. And do you have the kdesu package installed? You can search which package contains kdesu via
Code: Select all
urpmf kdesu

You may want to have a look at https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/6 ... ges_whats/ and maybe https://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/ ... s-as-root/ for an alternative.

oddly enough, urpmf kdesu did not find kdesu. But the find function in Dolphin did, but annoyingly, as in the dreaded Windows, it didn't divulge where it found it. I found it by looking in 'properties' It's in /usr/libxec/kf5. Surely, if you use a 'find file' function, you want to know where it is. Not that it exists somewhere. Konqueror, which has (had) a proper find file operation, couldn't find the file, because clicking on the find file command in the menu came up with ''Could not find the program 'kfind' '' [Sigh]. I've not time to try it, at the moment, but I'll give it a whirl, later

I did try the new path to kdesu, and it does work, so using Konqueror or Dolphin as root, is assured. For that, I'm relieved. I also tried your suggestion of krusader. It's certainly impressive, bujt the double screen is fine if you need it, but a single screen, with an option to add more seems a lot tidier. It too, does have the option, built in, for operation as root. The only stumbling block, now, it seems is the absence of a sensible bookmarking system. After a somewhat cursory investigation of konqueror Mga6 version, I'm not at all sure that it has any bookmarking capabilities, in the old sense of having them in a sidebar. Does anyone know if it's possible to install the Mga 5 version of Konqueror into Mga 6?
The file find problem of Konqueror on Mga 6rc is easily cured. Kfind is in the repositories. When installed, Konqueror once more has its file find function restored. Something to fix before the final version comes out?
