[SOLVED] Installing virtualbox stalls out and dies

How can I install Virtualbox? I'm trying to do this via the Mageia 5 Control Center. Repos are updated. I select x64 packages, because I have a 64 bit system. Installation dies. Is there some special group of packages I have to select? There are a lot to choose from.

Any help, much appreciated.

TIA

Joel

Sorry to reply to my own post, but the install dies trying to install something called aria2. I didn't select this as a seperate install. It must be a dependency, as in my last attempt to install vb, I selected nothing other than the main package.

aria2 is one of the downloaders that urpmi uses. And the installation probably doesn't "die" it just can't download the packages.
Can you post the output as root of
Code: Select all
urpmi virtualbox

Hi Dok,

output of sudo urpmi vitrualbox is :

Code: Select all
To satisfy dependencies, the following packages are going to be installed:
  Package                        Version      Release       Arch
(medium "Core Updates")
  virtualbox                     5.0.16       1.mga5        x86_64
  virtualbox-kernel-4.1.15-desk> 5.0.16       3.mga5        x86_64
(medium "Core Updates Testing")
  dracut                         038          21.mga5       x86_64  (recommended)
  kernel-desktop-4.4.11-1.mga5   1            1.mga5        x86_64  (recommended)
  virtualbox-kernel-4.4.11-desk> 5.0.16       5.mga5        x86_64  (recommended)
  virtualbox-kernel-desktop-lat> 5.0.16       5.mga5        x86_64  (recommended)
164MB of additional disk space will be used.
73MB of packages will be retrieved.
Proceed with the installation of the 6 packages? (Y/n)

Installation failed, some files are missing:
    http://mirror.easthsia.com/mageia/distrib/5/x86_64/media/core/updates_testing/kernel-desktop-4.4.11-1.mga5-1-1.mga5.x86_64.rpm
    http://mirror.easthsia.com/mageia/distrib/5/x86_64/media/core/updates_testing/virtualbox-kernel-4.4.11-desktop-1.mga5-5.0.16-5.mga5.x86_64.rpm
    http://mirror.easthsia.com/mageia/distrib/5/x86_64/media/core/updates_testing/virtualbox-kernel-desktop-latest-5.0.16-5.mga5.x86_64.rpm
You may need to update your urpmi database.

Try to continue anyway? (y/N)

It always dies on dracut,

My software database was updated no more than 2 days ago, via Mageia CC

Thanks for your help, Dok

Why do you have testing repositories enabled?

Earlier version of abiword had some bugs, testing repo had newer version that fixed them. I use abiword. Was advised to get it.

Who if anyone told you to leave testing repositories enabled?
Disable them and try again.

BTW I hope you didn't break other things by updating with testing repositories enabled.

Sorry for the late reply.

Don't recall who advised me get abiword from the test repos. Fact is it solved my problem. Haven't any problems. Should I turn those repos off and try install virtualbox again?

I turned off the testing repo, virtualbox installed. Haven't tried to actually use it yet.
