Advice needed for a UPS, (battery backup)

I would like to get a UPS for my Mageia 5 PC. The PC is standard: AMD FX-4350 CPU, 8GB RAM, AMD R7-250X GPU, 1 spinning disk SATA HDD.

I Would like a UPS that has software that can close open files and shutdown the PC in an orderly manner. I do not need a UPS to keep the PC running beyond the time needed to do the shutdown.

My concern is about the software for Linux that would come with the UPS, that it will work with Mageia 5.

Any advice, greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Joel

I use an APC Back-UPS to backup my workstation. This unit has been in place for about 8 years, and I have replaced the battery in it twice. It did fail at one point (would not charge battery), and I had to replace two electrolytic capacitors in it to restore it to functionality.

It works with the apcupsd daemon package on Mageia. I also installed gapcmon in order to have a GUI for monitoring the UPS. Everything works fine.

Thanks Jim,

APC is a good brand. This is exactly the info I was looking for.

Best Regards.
