Insert "core release" Mageia installed to VMware [SOLVED]

Postby mtwilson » Apr 2nd, '16, 20:55

OK, I got great help with my DB rebuild for my Software Management problem here and then I went to use it and I get an error; Please insert the media named "core release". I did some searching and found that this usually refers to inserting the original DVD, which I don't have since this is a VMware install from an iso image.

I did go to the Mageia Control Center and went through the "Configure media sources for install and update" tool and everything is current and appears correct (all core releases are selected except testing, debugging and backports), I ran an update and all was current. I rebooted and still the same problem.

This may be a VMware question, but I couldn't find anything related on a general Internet search so I am hoping someone here is familiar with this. How do I "insert the media" in VMware using an iso image? Or is there some other config/rebuild I can do to solve this?

Are those entries still active in your "Media Configuration"? https://wiki.mageia.org/en/File:SoftManage4.png
If yes, please deactivate or delete these entries. As long as you configured the online media correctly those entries are not needed anymore.

BTW: if you insert the iso in the VM configuration, it acts inside the VM as inserted CD or DVD respectively.

OK, I turned off those entries (they were still selected) and rebooted and I inserted the iso image into the new configuration window (the only way I know how). I let the iso run until it was about to create an entirely new instance of Mageia and held it there. I then ran the install attempt once more from the software management utility without a change (I still get the same error). I am not sure if that is what you were suggesting, but it did not work. Let me know if there is another way to "insert the iso in the VM configuration".

No, sorry it seems I confused you by the last sentence, which was only informative.

After the installation of Mageia in the VM you don't need the iso anymore. You should add the online media as described here: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Software_management and remove the CD-ROM media. That's simply all. Then you are able to install all available packages without the need of the iso.
