I'm new here. Just installed Mageia on my laptop. Have been using different distros to find the one I like.
I'm a newbe to the Linux world.
I have Mageia 5 using the LXDE desktop on a Panasonic CF-51 Toughbook laptop. When I choose shutdown the screen goes blank and nothing else, I have hold the power button in order to get the laptop to shut off. When I try to restart the laptop I get the same blank screen.
Thanks for your help

Hi,
please have a look at
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_5_Errata#LXDEShutdown or reboot can take more time than normally needed, due to LXDM not properly handling SIGTERM signal sent by systemd, see
mga#15168
How long did you wait for it to shutdown or reboot?

Thanks for your reply. It does shutdown, takes about 1 min to do so. Haven't tried restart yet, but I would think that it take about the same time.
Thanks for your help

As explained in bug 15168, you can simply switch to another login manager, and the problem should be gone.
Pick one from some of the several choices we offer, see
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Display_Managers and then switch to that one via
http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/5/en/content/drakedm.html

Thanks!
How do you install the other display managers? I only get two choices via the display manager.
1. LXDE
2. XDM

You need to install another display manager first, e.g. install lightdm or sddm via
http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/5/en/content/rpmdrake.htmldrakedem only allows to switch between installed display managers.
