I lke to start by saying that I've only recently came over to Linux. Actually I have little overall knowledge of pc's but keen to learn.
The laptop i've just bought is a Lenovo ideapad 500s, 14 inch with Sky Lake Integrated Graphics, Nvidia Geforce GK208M (920M), 8 gb ram, 240 SSD.
I'v tried several things to get Mageia running. I've read this https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_5_Rel ... ia_drivers and tried it. But I'm not sure if i did the right thing. During installation setup I selected the Nvidia Geforce 8100 to geforce 415. He then points out that is a proprietary driver and if i want to use it. I accept. After rebooting he gives a fault "ipv6 does not support broadcast matching"

i also tried https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_5_Err ... ed_systems (the 1st point i don't understand, how change the runlevel)
When he's booting he also gives the following very shortly: platform device failed: -16

I have no internetconnection.

Back on topic, it would be good if you could provide some more details. What installation media did you use?

"During installation" implies that Mageia at least boots fine, up to the installer, right? What happens if you don't select the graphics card and just leave the default?
Unrelated, the message "ipv6 does not support broadcast matching" is not the error, but incidentally the last message you see, when the graphical server does not start.
At that point you could switch to another tty via Ctrl+Alt+F2 and login as your user or as root, and check /var/log/Xorg.0.log or post it here to see why the X server does not start.

That's only relevant if you want to use the processor-integrated graphics chip. And it seems when you don't use that option you can at least boot Mageia up to the installer, as mentioned above?

I'm using the usb method.

Yes, it does boot normally up to the installation. I used vesa with the graphic card. This time it starts. But what kind of influence has it to the laptop? I read somewhere that it has something to do with the battery? If I change to a higher kernel, will he automaticly recognise the graphic card?

i also noticed that there's no wifi icon or somekind of link to connect.

You still didn't mention which installation media you used, i.e. which image you put on your usb drive.

vesa driver is a generic driver, not offering hardware acceleration and possible not offering higher display resolution which your card or your monitor might support.
You now need to install the proper graphics driver, as explained in https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Setup_the_graphical_server or in http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/5/en/content/XFdrake.html
Depending on the installation media you used, you might need an internet connection for that.

For the wifi icon, please mention which desktop environment you use, and please also provide the output of the following commands

i'm using this image Mageia-5-x86_64-DVD.iso I'm using the cinnamon environment. I also booted into manjaro 15.12, i could normally connect through Wifi, but had many problems with the graphic card. this laptop has no ethernet-connection

Ok, from the last screenshot it seems you have an intel wireless chip, Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 Plus Bluetooth 3165NGW "Stone Peak 1" - taken from https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Intel
As this seems to be a pretty new adapter, the following would probably apply: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_5_Err ... ed_systems

You would have to download the three mentioned packages and install them via e.g. an usb stick or similar. For convenience, here are the links to the x86_64 versions:

I was only able to install the "non-free" firmware.

You need to install/update all 3 packages in one transaction. Best use

i've installed the 3 packages. I've booted into the last kernel and the this result. It seems to me that the videocard is this still the isseu. I've read on the linux mint forum the wifi-problem can be solved through a usb wifi adapter. What's your thought about that?

Well, first things first. Better first focus on wireless, so it's easier to install necessary packages.

If you need a graphical login, you could still opt for the vesa driver as described in the beginning of this thread. Please switch to that, and report back.

Ok, the vesa driver didn't work, so i choose the Xorg - fbdev option. It boots, but he won't take my password although i've used it in the terminal before.

In viewtopic.php?p=62642#p62642 you mentioned that vesa worked fine ...

Anyways, if you can't login then reset the password of your user. As root

I've re- installed the whole because i couldn't change the password. I didn't use a password, so he would start up at once. But he doesn't. The screen flickers and the same screen to log in comes up. Have patience with me please. Like i said, i'm a beginner.

Which graphics driver did you select now? And is there anything in /var/log/Xorg.0.log as mentioned in the second post?
And what's now different to your last installation, at least then you could successfully start the desktop ... ?
Maybe try another one like IceWM or KDE for now, you can install any desktop later easily.

I' ve installed the 4.1 desktop and the other packages with succes. (using KDE) It boots, and the possibility to connect by wifi is there. When i want to connect he says that the wpa_supplicant needs to be installed. He then asks to enter "Core release" medium. Where do i find that?
How can i get the output for /var/log/Xorg.0.log? Is this the actual command, because he says there's no such file or directory.

What do you mean by 4.1 desktop? Previously you said you used Mageia-5-x86_64-DVD.iso

That is your installation media, you'd need to insert the DVD again.

/var/log/Xorg.0.log is only the file name. To view the contents, use e.g.

I think i expressed myself wrongly, i booted into the new 4.1 kernel from the packages you suggested http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/ ... x86_64.rpm at the startup screen

Wifi is running.
There's a question mark next to the wifi that says "no medium found. You must add some media through software media manager". Is this related to the graphic driver?

No it's related to the fact that you probably didn't configure software repositories yet.

If like to run another Linux OS, do i have reinstall this packages again to obtain wifi connection? Are they compatible with any other distro?
What did the output tell you?

If you're asking if you can use those Mageia packages on another linux distro, then the answer is: they will probably not work at all or not properly. You would have to use the respective distro's own packages for driver support.

For the output it tells me that you're currently using the fbdev driver, a generic framebuffer driver similar to vesa. You would probably still need to setup the X server with nvidia drivers via MCC as documented in
http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/5/en/content/XFdrake.html and https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Setup_the_graphical_server
