Grub2 runs too slow and on a low resolution, while grub runs ok, what could be the cause of this?

I'm guessing that you are on old hardware, in which case there is no solution other than to use the text version which is very fast.
In a terminal:
Code: Select all
su
urpme grub2-mageia-theme
update-grub2
exit

Otherwise it would be helpful if you could post your /etc/default/grub and mention what graphics card you use.
But from my experience it won't make much of a difference. Tried resolutions above 1280x1024 and it becomes much more sluggish then. That's with a GTX970 ...
