Hello, I am a novice and have just upgraded to Mageia 5. I have the same problem shown here. I am unsure how to go about the fixes mentioned here. I have a nvidia geforce 8600 gt graphics card. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Which of the suggested actions did you take already? And please provide some detail information.

Did you read the errata entry for this yet? https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_5_Err ... rce_415.29

I found this after my post and followed the instructions from this post https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=10019
My pc still will not boot and is emitting constant beeping and the error message re screen resolution being incorrect.
Please let me know what other information I can provide. Thanks for your patience I'm very new to Linux.

Please open a separate thread for your, constant beeping does not sound like it's caused by a wrong display driver.

In that new thread show the output of
Code: Select all
grep -i driver /var/log/Xorg.0.log
lspcidrake -v
rpm -qa | sort | grep nvidia

I don't know what I need to do to show the output you advise in a thread, I have very little experience with linux.
When I checked again in safe mode, following the instructions from the errata as before, the driver had reverted to nvidia from xorg and I am unable to make this change permanent. When I restart the first image to flash on the monitor is nvidia logo. My system is dual booted with windows xp could this be causing a problem?
Thanks for the prompt replies.

Ok, I've split this into a separate thread. Now let's first get your issue sorted out by describing it better.

From what I understood, currently you cannot boot to graphic mode, right? Please boot to failsafe mode from the boot menu, and then login as root.
Run drakx11, and select Xorg and the vesa driver, then OK to get the configuration saved. Then reboot normally. What happens?
This is also described in more detail here: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_chang ... hic_driver

FWIW, it does not matter if you dual-boot with win xp or win7 or any other operating system.

I tried once more in safe mode and managed to boot to graphic mode. I then set up graphical server and downloaded a proprietory driver and can now boot normally. (no beeps) How do I mark this solved
Thanks for all the help.

Emlou,
You can do so, by editing the subject/title in the first message in this topic.
Write [SOLVED] to the left of subject/title, thanks ahead. ;)

It will not change away from custom as every driver that has been manually select will show as <custom>
and you only get to save the changes once exiting drakx11, where you would have to say <Yes>.
