[SOLVED}Mageia 5 Successful Installation

Postby banjo » Sep 30th, '15, 04:29

I just installed Mageia 5 on my newly built computer. Intel Core i5, 8 Gig of RAM, 500 Gig SSD, etc. I installed the 64 bit UEFI version to get up to speed on that. All went well, and it looks to be another outstanding distro from the Mageia community.

So far the only thing I am missing is the Fuzzy Clock. The one that is there just crashes with a Javascript error. I can't find the old one that works on my Mageia3. But that is certainly a very minor problem.

Thanks to the whole team who put this together.

FWIW, what's the fuzzy clock? And using what desktop environment?

Code: Select all
urpmi plasma-applet-fuzzy-clock

Seems to display the time as words rather than numbers

My gosh, isn't that wasting a lot of the precious space of the taskbar and system tray area?

OK. I scrolled past all of the applets in the Control Center several times and did not see it. In fact, I just booted it and searched for "fuzzy" and there were no results. I did:

Code: Select all
rpm -qa | grep fuzzy

and there were no results.

My wife likes the Fuzzy Clock, so I was trying to get it back.

Is there an extra repository I need to include?

Update:
Here is the list of the repositories that I have configured:

Code: Select all
$ urpmq --list-media active
Core Release2
Core Updates
Nonfree Release2
Nonfree Updates
Core 32bit Release
Core 32bit Updates
Nonfree 32bit Release
Nonfree 32bit Updates

Update 2:
Never mind. Brain cramp. I had "Packages with GUI" selected in the Control Center. After I selected "All", the fuzzy clock showed up with a search. Duh.

Thanks to all for your patience.

Code: Select all
rpm -qa | grep fuzzy
plasma-applet-fuzzy-clock-4.14.3-4.mga5

So you need to install plasma-applet-fuzzy-clock. It is in the core/release repo.

What is the output from:
Code: Select all
urpmq --list-url

I did find it. I added Tainted to my list, but that wasn't the problem. I had selected "Packages with GUI" in the MCC, and it did not show up. I changed that to "All" and it is there. Here are my enabled repositories now:

Code: Select all
urpmq --list-media active
Core Release2
Core Updates
Nonfree Release2
Nonfree Updates
Tainted Release
Tainted Updates
Core 32bit Release
Core 32bit Updates
Nonfree 32bit Release
Nonfree 32bit Updates

Funny, but now the rpm query finds it as well.

Code: Select all
# rpm -qa | grep fuzzy
plasma-applet-fuzzy-clock-4.14.3-4.mga5

Thanks for the help. Terrific distro

OK I did that, but it looks a little funny on a topic "Mageia 5 Successful Installation"

If the successful installation has been solved, does that mean that it doesn't work anymore?

Kidding.

Great distro.

Congratulations to the team.
