Question about needed amount of memory

I just got hod of a gigabyte ep35c ds3r
I don't know what's on it yet but have just looked up what RAM it can have: 4 GB of DD3 or or/and 8 GB DDR2.

I gather 4 is enough for office, surfing and a little video watching. Will it make a difference to the operating speeds if I add some DDR 2 I have a shed load of old dtuff floating around and am thinking of letting it go to a friend to do some work for me on.

Honorable Weatherlawyer, as you see, i split your post from the "Post your desktop"-sub-forum.
At the same time, i gave it a more meaningful title, hope you agree.
If not, change it to your likings. ;)

In any case, more slow RAM is always better then less RAM. It will always be magnitudes faster then access to harddisk.
But 4GB should be totally sufficient for office and casual usage.
