Saving my files from LM

I newly installed Mageia 5 on a usb stick. I tried to view the files on my HD which contains LM & got an error 'failed to mount the partition'. Otherwise the 3 partitions are displayed. Any ideas?

Hello Kuman and welcome to Mageia.

what do you mean by "LM"?
are these partitions encrypted?
which desktop are you using?

it's Linux Mint
don't think they're encrypted
the last choice in the menu, other DT
I liked the last one cause it's small, fitted in on a 4Gb Stick.
it also doesn't mount the content of the 2 Gb sd card, I can only see it in viewing the partitions

The last choice in which menu, do you mean in the installer? http://doc.mageia.org/installer/5/en/co ... roups.html
And what media did you use to install Mageia?

Please open a terminal, and show the output of the following commands, run as your normal user:
Code: Select all
/sbin/blkid
mount
ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep polkit
echo $DESKTOP_SESSION

I'm struggling with the Character Map app, can't enter the vertical line in the code. There's any other way?

And what media did you use to install Mageia?

It's on a usb stick & I run it from it.

Copy&paste? Or use the minus key on the numeric keypad?

it's a notebook, doesn't have a numeric pad, the vert line is shown in green on the key right below the escape key

Can't even c/p the output after 1st 2 rows in the terminal :o

Maybe the HD hibernates as I saw in a thread ....

What does hdd hibernating have to do with copy&paste? If you access the hdd, it will wake up from energy-saving.
How do you copy&paste? Via right-click context menu, or via terminal emulator menu?
You can also use Ctrl+Shift+C to copy and Ctrl+Shift+V to insert in terminal.

Ctrl+Shift+C to copy and Ctrl+Shift+V also didn't work in terminal

He meant when you downloaded the .iso media from Mageia , which one of the many did you download?
KDE Live cd, Gnome Live cd, KDE Live DVD 32 or 64, Gnome Live DVD 32 or 64, Classical DVD 32 or 64.

Would you mind launching Mageia Welcome and at the top right it will give some information about your system, Mageia version, kernel and destktop:*******
