Sound off on your experiences with the new
update to Firefox 6.0. Any problems, differences,
better?????

Seems to have plugged and played for me just fine.
64-bit Mageia with the 64-bit Flash plugin looks ok
for now. Gimme a few days with it.

Firefox 6 seems OK for me. I have been using it on Mageia 64 bit, and have no problems. Also using Flash.

Testing it since two weeks and no problem so far, sometimes feels a bit snappier, though :)

slight improvement in long old fashion raw basic lists, selection and right click can still take up to 10 seconds.

improvement is there but not significant.

this was not the case with ff 3 or chromium, and is a ff4 and newer performance change.

otherwise no negative aspects encountered over ff5

i also use menu editor to get rid of the annoying forced change in how thy want you to use the browser, ie tabs over new windows.

unfortunately menu editor causes a problem of flashing context menu on initial launch of menu, and i think this must be down to menu editor itself.

regards peter.

Could you please explain a bit more? I'd always prefer tabs over new windows, and you're free to change the preferences like you want them.
I'm using my profile since Firefox was named Phoenix, and never noticed such a bigger (forced) change in default behaviour.

The two complaints I have are:
1. The usual "my plugins don't work and now I need to manually "upgrade" them to work."
2. Somebody stole my error console and I can't for the life of me find out where it is. Needless to say #firefox @Freenode was less than helpful.

For 1. that's bogus here, you need to complain to plugin developers.
For 2. with 6.0 you have an additional submenu in Firefox menu "web developer" there is your error console. Shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+J.

1. It's a general complaint about Firefox's new numbering scheme. I actually met a FF representative at a recent FOSS con and he told me the exact same thing. It's not a general lament on my part, simply a heads-up to anybody who will be upgrading.
2. Thank you very much. Now why the hell can't they keep the menus the way they were, or alternatively mention that somewhere in a FAQ that I can find, or even, heaven forbid, answer questions on the IRC chan. </rhetorical questions>

Well, for 2. part of it is mentioned in the release notes for Firefox 6. Also if you would've used the shortcut you would've never noticed :)

Also about the plugin problem, that has always been there, and if the developer added his plugin properly at addons.mozilla.org,
then it will also receive automatic updates for new firefox versions. Not meaning it's developed by mozilla, it's just changed so it's
still usable with new firefox versions, IIRC.
For my part, there are maybe 2 out of 10 plugins which regularly break on update, being DownloadHelper (sometimes)
and Linkification, but Linkification isn't updated anymore since quite some time.

I solved my ff problems by using nightly ver 9.0a1, never have a problem and it is updated everyday. All of my plug ins and extensions just seem to work. No xulrunner required. If some problem crops up it is fixed the same day and updated.
imho moz is moving at light speed and trying to keep up with them would be a full time job.

The only drawback I've found is Moonlight plug-in not working.
Need it to listen to my favorite radio station online too... too bad.
