printer setup in control centre

Postby Graham1941 » Aug 23rd, '15, 09:43

Hi All
I am in the process of upgrading my OS from Mint 12. I am running Mageia 5 from a CD before deciding on installing it. I like what I see so far... However I would like to see if I can get my printer (Epson XP-215) to work. From previous experience this is a notoriously difficult printer to get working. (It's not included in the Epson defaults lists therefore it needs drivers installing).
Enough of the preamble. I cannot find the printer setup in the control centre panel. It should be in the HARDWARE section. I cannot find it.
Any help or advice would be greatly received.
Thank you in anticipation.

What live cd do you run currently?
And you don't have the "Set up printer..." icon at the bottom like in http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/5/en/content/ ... dware.html ?
Can you please show the output of
Code: Select all
rpm -q system-config-printer
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

Hi doktor5000
Thank you for your response. Sorry for delay in getting back to you - family issues.
I'll reply as soon as possible.
Kind regards

I was half expecting this to be available from epson themselves, as in the past they have been excellent.

I think the scanner driver is still the same as the epson 330 standalone scanner, that im using for my 330, which is the same one ive used in there other combination printers.

but the following link seems to suggest that the xp-215 printer is the same as the epson-201302w printer.

see link

https://www.openprinting.org/printer/Ep ... 217_Series

hope that helps , i have posted links in the printer section before referring to this, and i dont think this is going to be much different.

for scanning while the epson scan utility works, i would suggest vuescan .

Hi
Sorry for delay.
Firstly I'm running a cd from one supplied from a magazine. [Linux Format]
I have tried the "Setup the printer(s) and job queue" section. It requests an install of the following packages:
-system-config-printer
-task-printing-server
-task-printing-hp
When I click "Install" it says:
No package named -system-config-printer
No package named -task-printing-server
No package named -task-printing-hp
The rpm command displays
package system-config-printer is not installed
Incidently the printer is currently connected via a usb cable.
Thank you for you patience!
Kind regards

You have to setup online sources for installing packages.
See
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Software_man ... nd_updates

If you're running from the Live media everything you do will be lost on reboot but it will let you see if your printer is supported before committing to an installation.
