Postby mystere88 » Aug 25th, '11, 06:39

Hi All,

I'm browsing the page with Firefox
http://weiqi.sports.tom.com/2011-08-25/ ... 74315.html
and the windows comes up with empty content and said on the status line:
Start: applet not initialized.
How could I solve this ? Below are the info on my Mageia system.

Well, that site takes a while to load, but works here. Which firefox version are you using?
I'm on x86_64, Firefox 6 and the same OpenJDK and Oracle's Java version you are using.

You should also install libvdpau to get rid of this error:
Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

And you could try the following:
Code: Select all
update-alternatives --config java
and choose the jre-1.6.0-sun, then try again.
Browser should be closed when you do this.

Hi Doktor:
You should also install libvdpau to get rid of this error:
Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I had libvdpau intalled. But I have no libvdpau_nvidia.so.
I cannot figure out why this site needs "VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so"; my video card
(on a dell latitude E6400) is a Intel built in one.
Do you have this libvdpau_nvidia.so ? If so how to get it ?

BTW, I have upgrated to firefox 6. Java-script runs well for "normal sites" like this one:
http://www.phy.ntnu.edu.tw/ntnujava/index.php?topic=24.msg158#msg158
(clique on 1. Brownian motion)

However, no progress on my initial problem. I got exactly the same warning and the window is empty.
Both choices of Java RE lead to this trouble.
I wonder that site has some special Java instructions (but I do like very much this site!!) and what troubles me is that how it can work on your machine with Mageia!! :(

libvdpau_nvidia.so is a file, no package. It is contained in libvdpau, you can look for yourself:
Code: Select all
rpm -ql libvdpau

Well, the only bigger difference between our system i see is you have a 32bit installation, and i have a 64bit system,
and now that you say it, i' using the nvidia driver with an nvidia card, but that java problem doesn't seem related to graphics, but who knows?
That could be already enough as the reason why it works here. Have you used Firefox function to report a broken website?

And would be nice if you can find someone else to reproduce this problem. Did you already try
with a fresh firefox profile or with another use, maybe xguest?

For libvdpau:
Code: Select all
[root@localhost jianfeng]# urpmi libvdpau
No package named libvdpau
The following packages contain libvdpau: libvdpau-devel, libvdpau-trace, libvdpau1
You should use "-a" to use all of them
[root@localhost jianfeng]# rpm -ql libvdpau1
/usr/lib/libvdpau.so.1
/usr/lib/libvdpau.so.1.0.0
/usr/lib/vdpau

No ibvdpau_nvidia.so here.

But I wonder the serious problem could be the next warnings concerning
Code: Select all
   "sun.misc.ServiceConfigurationError: javax.sound....

etc.

I tested with a xguest account; got the same messages and problem.

No idea about what's happening. Would like give up as I really feel that the issues are
far away from I could understand!

Thank you Docktor. ;)
