Is it possible to simply load a Jpeg image on the desktop background without going through all the obfusticated themes programmers bullshit?

I would presume it depends on the desktop you use.

I have no idea what " obfusticated themes programmers bullshit" is, but I use KDE and using the jpeg of my choice for the desktop background is trivially easy.

For me the most easiest thing one could imagine.

Anyhow, maybe jdprueitt has better proposals, and therefore invited to contribute:

In case that "obfusticated themes programmers bullshit" is too difficult to figure out for the OP, one could easily use a search engine.
Among the first results are some video howtos, even on how to change the wallpaper. https://userbase.kde.org/Plasma/HowTo/4.5#Desktop
To use a custom one, simply click on open and choose your file.

Not sure how that's obfuscated or bullshit, and not sure how to make that easier. In any case, no need to keep this thread open.

Wallpaper?

I found the answer on the Linux mint forums!
To install a jpeg background, first click the cashew, then unlock widgets, next right click anywhere on the desktop, a new panel will open, at the bottom click folder settings, it will then open a window that installs wallpapers. Don't use the themes installer. J.P.

...from which I infer you are using KDE.

You do not have to unlock widgets in order change the wallpaper.

Seems you ignored the previous answers on how to do this. At least read what people reply to you.

Merged into existing thread.
