The idea of rebuild is not the main idea, I know they were rebuilt. The "3" suffix is.

BTW, I have had a issue with firefox, it refused to be upgraded (I guess because of the same version?). I had to remove it first. This is not desirable.
Also proftpd - which pointed to some old dependency until I have removed it and at reinstall it did not ask for that. But I've lost the config. Is it any way to reinstall a package with upgrade of the binaries only and leave alone the configs?

Maybe you have a /etc/proftpd.conf.rpmsave ? The config needs to be marked as such within the rpm, which is the case for most config files,
as user-made customizations should not be overwritten on updates/upgrades. Cf. line 757 in the spec: http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages/cauld ... iew=markup

Just tested: installed proftp, changed the configuration, removed proftpd. Configuration is saved as /etc/proftpd.conf.rpmsave

I confirm, it is saved, but I would expect to not bother. The situation is wrong regarding the package references and upgrading, not the config, indeed.

So, upgrading Mageia takes me usually two days of cleanup. The upgrading procedure, online or not, or both, needs more attention in order to upgrade all the available packages installed. Otherwise, Mageia is a strong distro and Mageia 3 performs lighter on my Intel Atom home server (NAS).
Good job as always and thank you!

Well, urpmi --auto-update upgrades all packages from all enabled repositories. If you prefer some special cleanup (remove all packages that not have a mgaX suffix) IMHO that's personal preference and not a global problem. I fail to see where it needs much more attention than usual updates, except from reading Release Notes/Errata, which one should do for each release, whether you're upgrading or not.

No, I was unclear, probably, not all the available packages were upgraded, meaning, for instance, firefox and thunderbird remained mga2. They were available as I have done it in the command line by uninstalling the mga2 and installing the mga3. And so many others I don't remember (about 150). I didn't add any media between the urpmi --auto-update and replacing these 150 packages. And I am not talking about the mga1 and mga2 delivered with Mageia 3. I am not aware of an error that stopped the upgrade.
