[SOLVED] DVD upgrade problems Mandriva - Mageia

Postby stargazerinwg » Nov 2nd, '11, 00:29

I installed Mageia 1 32 bit on my Dell Inspiron 1200 Laptop that was formerly running Mandriva 2010.2 - I selected the upgrade option. The installer identified a long list of packages for which the installation failed. The process to update packages at the end of the install did not appear to work. The install completed but when I boot it goes to CLI. I log in and issue startx and the KDE gui comes up (like before) but there is no keyboard or USB support. I have been using Mandriva/Mandrake for many years and am fairly handy with Linux but I don't know where to start on getting this laptop back in shape. It seems like keyboard would be first and then USB but I don't know exactly how to proceed. Maybe configure rpm media sources and try updating ... Any advice would be appreciated.

Did you try the official instructions from http://www.mageia.org/en/1/migrate/#urpmi ?
Please at least provide the output from the last command, by running it like this:
Code: Select all
urpmi --replacefiles --auto-update --auto 2>&1 | tee urpmi.txt

and attaching here the file urpmi.txt which has all the output.

Thanks very much. I will try this tonight. I don't believe the installer asked about configuring repositories during the upgrade, but no matter; this will probably do the trick.

I used the cli instructions (b)) after having the problem with installing from the dvd. It ran for several hours and appeared to install about 2000 packages - I only watched part of it. The system is fine now and fully upgraded. There was a message about removing a long list of orphaned packages. I did this once on a Mandriva upgrade and it caused lots of problems so I don't know if it would be advised in this case or not. I don't know what I did incorrectly with the dvd install. Thanks for your assistance in migrating to Mageia - it seems great so far.

Just don't mind that message ...

@Mods: please edit topic to something more meaningful like "DVD upgrade problems Mandriva - Mageia" and mark as [solved], thanks.

I think I'll try the cli instructions myself on my AAO netbook. I'll have a couple of extra days off work this weekend. The netbook already have Mandriva 2010.2 but I don't want to go with 2011.

Thnx.
