I have recently installed Mageia 1.0 on a new drive and moved all my data over to it. I installed VMware Player 4.0.0 build-471780 and tried to open the XP guest copied over with the data. I made sure all the permissions were correct before I tried to start it up. When I did I was disappointed to see an error dialog.

This stated that there was an irrecoverable serious error with the OpenGL graphics drivers. I put a message up on a VMware Player forum. A returned recommendation was that I report the issue here in case there was a known issue with this driver.

My motherboard has an on-board ATi GPU - HD4200.
It was suggested to me that I add this extract from the VMware log file:

I went back and installed ATi's proprietory driver.

This enabled the VMware XP guest but lost all the sound!

The 'Test' option in the graphics selection routine of the MCC did not work properly. No coloured stripes.

Even when there was sound, the mixer displayed only two options.

Because I have the 64-bit test routine of PClinuxOS to compare it with, I know that something isn't right. I guess I'll have to wait for the next release.
